What are Keywords in WordPress?
Keywords are ideas or you can say topics that define the content of your blog post. In terms of SEO, they are called “search queries”.
It is a word that is used as a reference point for finding other words of its kind. Still confused ?? Don’t worry i will give you a simple example –
If you are looking for something then what you can do. Like go to google and type “How to start a blog”, guess what – those are keywords.
Basically, keywords are those phrases that you are searching in search engines like google.
Types of Keywords
1. Generic Keywords
Generic keyword – ‘Football Shoes’
- Highly Competitive and decent traffic
- Not specific enough to the sites actual content
- Low conversions
2. Head Keywords (Broad keywords)
Head keyword – ‘Red Football Shoes’
- Not as much competition and good traffic
- Specific content for broad searchers
- Average amount of conversions
3. Long Tail Keywords
Long tail keyword – ‘Red Football Shoes Under $100’

How to set keywords ?
It’s not good to just throw keywords on your page, create original and unique content to provide real value for real people.
I mean to say, use keywords according to your title and the content of your blog post. Use keywords on title, meta description, alt attributes/ text on your images, slug and off-course on your article.
Plugins for Keywords and SEO
There is an extension for google chrome users named Keywords Everywhere. I love this extension, as it gives all the results regarding keywords when i look for something in google like volume per month, CPC rate, competition percentage and more related keywords.
